Coming Summer 2017
Registration will open Summer 2017
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children ages 3-12. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the Church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori.
Children gather in an "atrium", a special room prepared for them, which contains simple, yet beautiful materials they use to discover the richness and fullness of our Catholic faith. What makes CGS different from most traditional programs is that the primary goal of the catechist (teacher) is not to simply pass on information but to encourage a response from the child.
One area of the atrium includes small-scale items seen at Mass, such as a paten and chalice, objects from the parables in the Gospels and items from parts of the Mass such as Epiclesis and Lavabo. Additional materials allow the children to be immersed in the seasons of the Church. They reflect on the historical events of Jesus' life through the presentations on:
Advent: the Annunciation and Visitation
Christmas: the birth of Jesus
Lent: The Last Supper
Easter: The Resurrection
Pentecost: the gifts of the Holy Spirit
