“For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” Words we speak each Sunday as we profess our baptismal faith. Do we truly understand just how essential they are to Christianity? Do we fully grasp how awesome a profession we are making? Do we see these lines as the zero-sum proposition they are? Without these words—or, actually, the reality they describe—faith in Jesus is simply not possible.
